My involvement with dogs began in my “toddlerhood” in the Midwest during the precious years I spent with my grandfather, who was a breeder and trainer of various breeds of hunting dogs. I learned from him a love and “feel” for dogs of all types.

Horses also played a large role in my youth. I was competing professionally by the age of eleven. I received early experience as a teacher serving as a riding instructor at our family-owned equestrian academy.  

Settling down in Oregon as an adult with my own family was made complete by a renewal of my passion for dogs. For over a decade I was a nationally recognized breeder and exhibitor of champion German Shepherd Dogs. I trained others’ show dogs as well as my own and eventually began taking in family pets that were in dire need of some social skills. Gradually, Northfleet German Shepherds evolved into Northfleet Dog Obedience as I phased out my successful breeding and show career in favor of the work I truly love…training dogs and their owners to effectively communicate and co-exist through love and understanding.
