FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How does your live-in program differ from more traditional obedience classes?

A: First of all, any positive move on your part to train your dog is a good one, regardless of whether you decide upon group classes, private instruction, or a live-in program such as ours. The main advantage of the live-in type is consistency. The dog is placed in a fresh environment where he or she will, from then on, not be able to continue his or her bad habits. So much imprinting takes place because every time the dog is handled, played with, or talked to there is consistency and positive behavior modification. Also, the training is ongoing, not dependent on your daily schedule or interruptions. For the busy person, training even the most docile pup can be sometimes overwhelming. Of course, you then have the more challenging dogs. They often  require a program like ours.

Q: Will my dog remember me after he or she has been gone from home for five weeks?

A: Yes! Also, you are encouraged to come and visit your dog during his or her stay with us. We want you to see the progress and have it explained. In fact, the more communication we have with you, the better the program works!

Q: Is there any assurance that my dog will mind me as well as the trainer when I take he or she home?

A: Absolutely! Toward the end of the dog's training time (the final few weeks), you come for scheduled private training sessions where you are schooled in all of the commands and techniques. You practice it with your dog under our guidance and are prepared for the transition back to your home.

Q: Will Northfleet Dog Obedience help me if I have any questions or problems with my dog after the training is completed?

A: Yes! We are very accessible by phone and want clients to call immediately to clear up any little difficulties they may encounter. Also, in the package there are two follow-up sessions included to be used in the first year after live-in training is completed. This is a little added insurance for your success.

Q: How much time is required of me as far as daily follow-up training after my dog is finished with live-in training?

A: Actually, you will automatically be practicing most of the commands in your normal day with your dog. We will show you how to incorporate the training into "real" life, as that is what is all about in the first place. This will be made easier if you also work some little assigned "drills" with your dog when out walking, in the house, etc.

Q: Will my dog always live in a dog kennel run while in training?

A: No! In fact, much of the practical application takes place in our home or on outings with the dogs, just like you would do when your dog returns home. We also have fenced play areas where the dogs get to run and exercise. In addition, if your dog is a house dog, we will share our living space as if he or she were our own pet.
